2.5.1 Outline the stages in the cell cycle

Interphase is made up of G1 (Growth phase 1 or Gap 1), S (Synthesis) and G2 (Growth phase 2 or Gap 2). Interphase is not a part of cell division or mitosis, it occurs before cell division.

Mitosis is composed of Prophase (P), Metaphase (M), Anaphase (A) and Telophase (T). Mitosis is technically cell division to produce two genetically identical nuclei however cytokinesis is necessary afterward to divide the cytoplasm in order to produce two separate daughter cells.

The arrows indicate cytokinesis taking place and each daughter cells the undergoes the cell cycle for itself.
