Hi. I'm Max Dalton, and in this video I'm going to talk through how to set up the TP-Link smart plug.

The TP-Link smart plug lets you access your outlet remotely so you can turn it on and off even when you're away, schedule when connected devices should be on, monitor energy use, and more. While you can also link your TP-Link smart plug with Amazon Alexa or Google Home, you'll first need to set it up using TP-Link's own Kasa app. The TP-Link smart plug setup process doesn't take more than a few minutes.

And now, the steps to set up your TP-Link smart plug.

Step 1. Download the Kasa for Mobile app from your app store if it's not currently installed on the smart device you'll be using to control your TP-Link smart WiFi outlet.

Step 2. If the smart device you'll be using to set your TP-Link device up with on the Kasa app isn't connected to a 2.4-gigahertz signal band, then connect it to that signal band. If you're not sure what signal band your device is connected to on your wireless router, you'll need to check your wireless router settings. If you have a Netgear router, I'll put a link to a video in the description that walks you through how to tell what signal band you're using.

Step 3. Launch the Kasa app on your smart device. If you don't have a Kasa account, you'll need to create one before moving on. After either logging in or creating your Kasa account, you'll arrive at the Kasa home screen, which will show all of the smart devices you've added to Kasa.

Step 4. Click the "+" icon in the upper right corner of the app. The Add Device screen appears. Ensure the TP-LINK tab is selected at the top, and then tap "Smart Plug." A screen appears, telling you to connect your smart plug to an outlet.

Step 5. Connect the TP-Link smart WiFi plugin to an outlet. The WiFi indicator light will start blinking between green and amber. Tap the blue "Next" button in the Kasa app. The next screen will ask you to verify that the WiFi indicator light is blinking amber and green. Tap the blue "Next" button again.

Step 6. The next screen asks you to go to the location on your device where you connect to WiFi. On an Apple device, you can do this by opening the Settings app and then tapping "Wi-Fi." You'll see your TP-Link Smart Plug appear in the list of available networks. Tap the available TP-Link Smart Plug WiFi network. After a moment where it shows the device as connecting, you'll see a check mark appear to the left of the TP-Link Smart Plug network.

Step 7. Navigate back to the Kasa app. You may see a spinning wheel icon in the center of the screen for a few seconds, but it will eventually move on to the Device Name screen. Enter a name for your specific device, and then tap "Next." A Customize Icon screen appears. Tap to choose an icon that best represents what your smart outlet will be associated with, and then tap "Next."

Step 8. The Joining Your Network screen appears, prompting you for the password to your wireless network. Enter your wireless password, and then tap "Next." A screen appears informing you that your smart plug configuration is being finalized. A message will appear when the setup is complete, informing you that you're ready to go. Tap "Done" in that message. You'll return to the initial Devices screen, where you'll see the device that you set up is now displayed.

Congratulations! You've successfully set up your TP-Link smart plug.
