Day Trip to Shin-Yokohama & Yokohama

A city that is just 1 hour 20 minutes from Tokyo.
Probably because of the places we went to, the city just felt like it exuded a retro atmosphere.

A classic Japanese coffeehouse with butler-like staff,dressed up in black vest & white shirt with a black bow tie.
They serve old-fashioned Western-inspired Japanese dishes. A meal set that comes with a stack of Soufflé Pancake with sweet syrup & whipped cream on its top, really has that classic American dish feel.

新横浜ラーメン博物館
𝙎𝙝𝙞𝙣-𝙔𝙤𝙠𝙤𝙝𝙖𝙢𝙖 𝙍𝙖𝙢𝙚𝙣 𝙈𝙪𝙨𝙚𝙪𝙢
A museum dedicated to ramen that is said to be the first food themed park in the world.
On its 1st floor is the history of ramen exhibition that tells of how it is adopted from China's noodle dish, the success story of instant ramen, the wall of ramen bowls display, & the models of ramen from each region in Japan, with their different toppings and broth. There is also a gift shop & the ramen workshop (ラ-博 スゴメン ラボ/ 𝙍𝙖-𝙃𝙖𝙠𝙪 𝙎𝙪𝙜𝙤𝙢𝙚𝙣 𝙇𝙖𝙗) where we can make our own instant cup ramen and/or take a ramen making class. The workshop uses 3 Sugomen Lucha Libre Brothers as their mascot.

There are 2 basement floors in the museum. These floors are a reproduction of old town Tokyo in its industrial time.
The 2nd basement is where the 9 ramen restaurants stand. They serve a range of regional ramen.
On the 1st underground level, we can walk through a small lane of the 1950s housing compounts with tobacco & grocery stalls along the lane. The attention to the decorations & other small details they put in these 2 basement floors are stunning. The colours, the feels, & the old-fashioned environment are so profound and remarkable. I did feel like I was in a different era.


横浜
𝙔𝙤𝙠𝙤𝙝𝙖𝙢𝙖
Around 20 minutes from Shin-Yokohama. In contrast to Shin-Yokohama, the city, as a port and a trading centre, is more modern, encircled by bodies of water, bays, bridges, & skyscrapers.
As it was the first city when I visited Japan a long time ago, I reminisced a lot on this visit.
This time, we just walked through the city & parks along the Yokohama Bay.


横浜中華街
𝙔𝙤𝙠𝙤𝙝𝙖𝙢𝙖 𝘾𝙝𝙞𝙣𝙖𝙩𝙤𝙬𝙣
We came through its North Gate, the Market Street Gate (市場通り門).
Teeming with people and restaurants, a Chinatown is always a place with lively atmosphere. Its close association to the restaurant sector is due to Chinese believing that having good food brings relationships closer, whether it is with our family or strangers. Having food will allow us to have the energy to go through any hardships.

𝙃𝙤𝙣𝙜 𝙆𝙤𝙣𝙜 𝙍𝙚𝙨𝙩𝙖𝙪𝙧𝙖𝙣𝙩
Restaurants along this area offer a good value for money & this place is no exception. Each meal set that comes with a main, 3 sides, & a dessert only costs us ¥990 (¥900 without tax). The sides offered come as a small bowl of sour soup or fried rice, a small bowl of salad, & 2 pieces of juicy xiao long bao. The dessert is a chilled coconut pudding.
The food tastes like what you would expect in your good local Chinese restaurant.
If you can't finish the meal set, however, you won't be allowed to take the remaining home. It has to be consumed on the spot or left behind.

On the way back to the station, we passed through 朝陽門/ Choyo-Mon Gate. There, a salaryman kindly offered us to take our pictures. Thanks to him, we have a good shot, together with the marvelous gate.

Today was our last day in Japan. We had a really good time.
The time & memories I spent with them (particularly with the elderly ones) are irreplaceable. So I really want to keep & cherish all these memories.
