M-12 Rotary Tool:

The battery powered M12 rotary tool is a great tool for small detailed projects or even cutting outlets in drywall. Being completely battery powered it makes the tool easy to use in tight spaces, at all different angles and can allow you more precise control when doing detail work. The only downside is that it doesn't have quite as much power as a traditional corded tool.

How it relates to smart homes:
We've been using the Milwaukee M12 rotary tool for smart lock installations when we need to slightly enlarge the hole for a new smart lock installation. We have found that in about 60% of smart lock installations we need to make modifications to frames or doors and this tool has been perfect to quickly get the job done. If you are smart home installer or homeowner it can make installing a smart lock a lot easier than trying to do the work by hand or setting up a door drilling jig. We have found with existing holes already drilled in a door, using a door drilling jig can be impractical or lead to scratching the door. With the Milwaukee hand held rotary tool we can make more precise adjustments to the smart lock opening without worrying about scratching the door.
This is a great addition to a tool box if you already have tools in the M12 lineup. I can see the biggest uses be for making door modifications, automotive work, boat refinishing work, and detailed carpentry work.

It can also be used to cut drywall holes for outlets, or can lights but if you are doing a lot of cuts you might run out of battery. We were able to get through about 10 large speaker cuts before we needed to change the battery.
