The phone will determine the fastest protocol and internet, situation depending, and connect to it. For example: 4G (LTE) is very slow, would take roughly 20 seconds to load. But using 3G would take only 15, it'll default to 3G. Websites are retrieved from the "internet" and need to "render in" with data speeds. Data towers can run on reduced power which would limit output distance. Distance is also calculated based on frequency, so CDMA may have a much larger distance then GSM due to the frequencies it runs on.
