Vanam, is a sustainable farmhouse design in Manegaon, Pauni region in Maharashtra. It is a perfect blend of understanding the context and using its resources to the utmost. The site was a 6-acre farm land with an abundance of orange trees. This three sided courtyard house of about 2000 sq. ft. and 1500 sq. ft. veranda (making the outdoors almost equivalent to indoors) is centered right in the middle of the farm, oriented as per the sun path and in a location to avoid trees being cut. Few of the details of the house include use of stone available at the farm in different forms as a major material in its architecture, Mangalore tile roofing, use of second hand heritage tiles, and furniture and other artefacts that were reclaimed from abandoned spaces. The house is blended beautifully with the surrounding natural landscape and has an old school charm to it.
