Описание к видео *RETENTION OFFER!* Amex Business Green Card (Amex Retention Offer 2020)

The American Express Business Green Card is NOT worth getting (or keeping) in most situations. Click "Show More" to see Ad Disclosure.

Check out the Amex retention offer I received on this credit card (actually a charge card) and what I said to get it!

But first, some context…

SIGNUP BONUS (October 2020)
15,000 Membership Rewards points after spending $3,000 in the first 3 months of card membership. That’s worth about $300 toward travel via Amex Transfer Partners (on average), $150 toward airfare when redeemed via Amex Travel Portal (i.e. AmexTravel.com), or $90 of cash back.

I applied for the Amex Business Green Card ONLY for the signup bonus. At the time, it was 5,000 Membership Rewards points after making 1 purchase in the first 3 months of card membership. Plus, the annual fee was waived in Year 1.

So I thought to myself: for $0 out of pocket, I can buy something I’d normally buy anyway and add 5K Amex Membership Rewards points to my balance.

And this is a business credit card, so it would not appear on my personal credit report, and it would not affect my credit score in any way, nor would it count against my Chase 5/24 Rule status.

Count me in!

So I got the card.

Now, 1 year later, American Express billed me the $95 annual fee.

I didn’t see any value in keeping the card in Year 2. Here’s why…

It earns 2X Amex MR points on travel, but only when booked through the Amex Travel Portal (AmexTravel.com)

It then earns 1X Amex MR points on all other purchases.

In terms of travel, that’s like getting a 1-2% return.
In cash back terms, that’s like getting 0.6% cash back.

AWFUL.

I then looked at all of the other major Amex credit cards (“charge cards”) that were refreshed / revamped over the years.

The Amex Platinum Card and Amex Business Platinum Card got updated several times, and now they’re among the best travel credit cards on the market today for elite status with Hilton Honors and Marriott Bonvoy, as well as for airport lounge access via Priority Pass, Centurion Lounges, Delta SkyClub, Escape Lounge network, and AirSpace lounge network.

The Amex Gold Card and Amex Business Gold Card were revamped as well. Now they’re fantastic for everyday personal and business spend, respectively.

The Amex Green Card (personal version) also got new benefits, like earning 3X Membership Rewards points on Travel and Dining, plus some credits to be used on LoungeBuddy and on CLEAR airport security membership, which works nicely with TSA Precheck.

But the Amex Business Green Card is still the same, and it’s in DESPERATE NEED of better rewards categories and benefits.

So while the Amex reconsideration line is for pending credit card applications, the Amex retention line is for requesting offers to keep your credit cards instead of cancelling them.

And that’s exactly what I did!

I logged into my American Express account, opened up the chat window, and ended up receiving a $75 statement credit with no spend requirement!

This definitely helped offset the $95 annual fee, so I decided to accept (and pay $20 out of pocket) to keep the credit card and potentially avoid the Amex Pop Up message on future credit card applications :D

All that said, do yourself a favor and apply for an American Express Card with more value. Or at least get a Chase Ink Business Preferred card or Capital One Spark Business Credit Card instead :-)
