Video 90 HMS Thorn. Part 2. Planking 101. Installing the wale.

The first video deals with the installation of the whale. In this video i am using very dark green heart wood which gives great contrast to the “juniper” which i have used for the rest of the planking on the model. The green heart was specially selected from stock and is not usually this dark.

It also explores using a bending jig to dry heat the planks off the model.

We also examine the many way you need to develop to clamp these strakes on to the model.

We show the anchor and butt method of laying these planks. If you have never done this before you might find it intimidating but just follow along and with some patience you will learn the technique.
