MOUNTAIN PIES --CAST IRON WEDNESDAY

Nothing says camping more than making mountain pies in the campfire! These yummy pocket treats can be savory or sweet, and are super easy, quick and fun for the whole family!

MOUNTAIN PIES

You need a pie iron.

Bread
butter
choice of fillings (blueberry, cherry, peach and apple with marshmallows are our favorites) or savory--pizza, ham and cheese, cheesesteak, roast beef, etc.

Preheat iron in the fire.
Butter the insides liberally.
Place a slice of bread in each side.
Fill center with fillings.
Put the other half on top hooked in, and close handles.
Place in good hot coals and time. Watch the edges as they brown up and you can smell when they are getting done. Good hot coals and preheated iron takes about 30-40 seconds a side, but depending on how full you fill them and how cold it is outside, it make take longer. Take out of the fire, pull apart iron and she's done! Cut and serve! It's HOT!
