Silencing the stigma of mental illness | Sam Troia | TEDxYouth@Omaha

How can you help when a friend or loved one has mental illness? Sam Troia faced this question and came up with an answer that anyone can use.

Sam Troia coordinated a program called Be the Light, an organization working to tear down the stigma behind mental illness. He wants to bridge the gap between physical health and mental health and treat both during therapy. Troia is currently enrolled in Creighton's Occupational Therapy Program. He wants to work with patients who have had traumatic brain injuries, strokes, and many different neurological disorders to return them to the activities they once loved to do before their accident.

This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at http://ted.com/tedx
