(29 Mar 2019) Dramatic scenes of rescue were witnessed as a fire swept through a high-rise office building in Bangladesh's capital on Thursday, killing at least 19 people and injuring about 70 others.
The blaze trapped many people inside the building, with some shouting for help from windows on the building's upper floors and from the roof.
Fire fighters used hydraulic cranes to rescue people and retrieve bodies from the building.
The fire at the FR Tower, on a busy avenue in Dhaka's Banani commercial district, was the latest in a city where flouted building regulations and safety norms have made deadly blazes common.
Many are being treated at Dhaka Medical Collage Hospital's burn unit.
Fires are common in Bangladesh.
Last month, a fire in the oldest part of Dhaka, a 400-year-old area cramped with apartments, shops and warehouses, left at least 67 people dead.
