Neutral, atomic hydrogen gas in the spiral arms of the Milky Way emits a spectral line of wavelength 21 cm, which is in the microwave part of the electromagnetic spectrum. The spectral line when detected by radio telescope in a certain orientation is observed to be shifted by 0.1 mm less than 21 cm.

How fast is this part of the galaxy is moving relative to us along the line of sight? Is it moving towards us or away from Earth?
