Dhaka residents walk through the home of former prime minister

Bangladesh’s parliament has dissolved after student leaders threatened further action if their demand was not met, a day after their protests led to the prime minister Sheikh Hasina resigning and fleeing the country in a helicopter.

The student leaders said in a video on Facebook that parliament should be dissolved on Tuesday and asked “revolutionary students to be ready” if that did not happen.

Hasina fled to neighbouring India, where she remains, though there has been speculation she could head to the UK. Her niece is Tulip Siddiq, a Labour MP.
