I recommend finishing this one before you read this.
Most songs written throughout human history mention love in some way. Love is powerful, it inspires us to make art and write songs, it is a universal experience, and by extension, heartbreak is too. This song explores that theme, giving each Vocal Synth their own personality as they give Miku advice. Stardust is overly poetic and uses a lot of metaphors, MAIKA is patient and gives straightforward advice, ALYS is overly logical and dismissive of feelings (although, her voice and cuteness make it hard to see her that way), and so on. Miku slowly opens up and reveals the true source of the pain at the end of the song.

Although Miku reveals that she lived through her first heartbreak 42 times, that doesn’t mean that those other heartbreaks never happened. It is up to the interpretation of the listener. Did she grieve her first love with every actual heartbreak because she never gave herself time to heal? Was she always reminded of it and struggled, hence getting her heartbroken all over “again and again”? Or was it finding things after the fact that only hurt more? Who knows.

Oh, and the number 42 comes from an inside joke. You would know if you followed my Instagram!

FL studio says 12 hours and 44 minutes on the main project, with the separate mixing/Vocaloid project having 7 hours 14mins on it. So many people worked on the lyrics that I can’t even begin to estimate how long this took. But the “raw” English lyrics took me 1-2 hours.
