Both teachers and classified staff have been sounding the alarm on the behavior issues in classrooms and on school grounds. They have voiced concerns for both student and staff safety.

Teachers have repeated requests for additional help in the classrooms.

The District continues to struggle with filling open classified (paraprofessional) positions. Classified employees provide direct support to teachers and students (one-on-one). They are an integral part of the successful day-to-day school operations.

Listen as the CSEA Representative shares concerns at the 2/4/25 SUSD Board Meeting. She explains the realities of why it’s difficult to keep classified employees on staff for the long term.

NOTE: As of the week of 2/24/25, the SUSD paraprofessionals have received various communications, including indications that their hours may be cut next year. Meanwhile, the District continues to struggle to fill open classified positions, and teachers are still pleading for additional in-classroom support due to behavior issues and large class sizes.
