Bass Lesson: Chick Corea's Spain - THAT RIFF | EASIEST FINGERING | ONE POSITION!

One thing I've learned from studying the bass for over 3 decades is that there is almost always an easier fingering than at first meets the eye/ear. A case in point is the famous line in Chick Corea's Spain that strikes fear into the hearts of some, but is really not as difficult as many bassists make it look.

Imagine you're in a jam situation and someone calls Spain, something that happens regularly in London. You haven't played it in a while and you don't have time to brush up. The fingering in this video has seen me through those situations every time, reliably playing the riff with no fluffs and hardly even needing to look at the fretboard. Just lead with your 4th (pinky) finger, slide up to the 14th fret and you're off!

P.S. I know that many people count this as a 2/4 time signature but I have always felt it as 4/4 and I believe it is more instructive to think of it that way. It also makes it a lot less confusing to read! Thus it becomes a 5 and a half bar phrase rather than 11 bars. Maybe it's cheating but if it makes things easier, I say why not?
