Leenika Jacob in her talk speaks about how Art and culture play a significant role in promoting sustainability by creating awareness through theatrical performances and different Art works. She begins by talking about her journey of how she was born and brought up in Bulandshahr and states that as she grew up the landscapes of her city changed drastically. She discusses the major climate changes that India has been experiencing and how there has been a severe change in India’s biomes. She goes on to discuss a few works of Art and Culture which have been dedicated to these issues. A few of the works she talks about include ‘Kala Pani’ a theatrical performance, ‘Raghurajpur- A Heritage Village’, The Camel’s Path by Dr. Paula Sengupta, etc.
Leenika Beri Jacob is a graphic designer, rural and social communication account planner, and the co-founder and managing trustee of Kala Chaupal Trust. She has over 20 years of experience in the field of communication, with a focus on social impact. Leenika is a Rex Karamveer Awardee and has spoken at various forums on the role of culture in addressing the climate crisis. She is a mother of three and believes in reinvention based on the principles of purpose.
In her TEDx talk, Leenika will discuss the intersection of arts, culture, and sustainability. She will share her insights on how we can use culture to raise awareness about environmental issues and to inspire people to take action. Leenika is an inspiration to us all.
