All New Porsche Macan GTS 2024 - OVERVIEW Review, exterior, Interior, Trunk

The Porsche Macan isn't like other compact luxury crossovers. While competitors aim for comfort and utility, the Macan prioritizes driving dynamics above all else. For 2024, Porsche's smallest SUV carries over with no major changes, but that's just fine as the Macan continues to set the bar for how a performance-oriented crossover should drive.

Under the hood, the base Macan gets a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder with 261 horsepower. It's reasonably quick with a 0-60 mph time of 5.0 seconds, but the Macan S is the one to get with its punchy 2.9-liter twin-turbo V6 making 375 hp. In our testing, the Macan S ripped to 60 in just 3.8 seconds, putting it squarely in sports car territory. The seven-speed PDK dual-clutch transmission fires off rapid upshifts with the whip-crack of a fine Italian exotic.

But straight-line speed only tells half the story. Thanks to its low center of gravity, precisely weighted steering, and tenacious grip from the sticky summer tires, the Macan S drives smaller than it looks. Quick transitions reveal remarkably flat composure and eager turn-in.

The all-wheel-drive system gives the Macan incredible traction out of corners, allowing you to mat the throttle ludicrously early.

On a winding road, the Macan S shrinks around you in a way no other crossover can match. The ride is firm but not harsh, and road noise is well-checked for such a performance-focused vehicle. Interior space is a bit tight, particularly for rear passengers, but that's the sacrifice you make for the Macan's sharp handling.

If there's a weak point, it's the interior design and quality of materials, which don't feel quite up to the premium pricing. But you don't buy a Macan for its cabin ambiance - you get it because it drives like a Porsche should. From the communicative steering to the glorious sounds emanating from under the hood, the Macan serves up an immersive driving experience unmatched in this segment.

The 2024 Macan isn't perfect, but it doesn't need to be. By dialing up the performance quotient to 11, it manages to imbue a compact crossover with a level of driving engagement that's downright intoxicating. Whether you're commuting or carving canyon roads, the Macan just goads you into driving a little harder and reveling in every input and response. That's something no other compact luxury crossover can replicate, and precisely why the Macan remains at the top of the class.
