STORYLINE

More Israeli soldiers prepared to cross the border into southern Lebanon early on Tuesday as fierce fighting between Hezbollah guerillas and Israeli soldiers in at least two locations in south Lebanon resulted in casualties.

Soldiers were seen preparing tanks and weapons, while others prayed and slept before their journeys.

Hezbollah TV reported guerrilla attacks on Israeli forces starting at 0300am (0000GMT) on Tuesday near the Mediterranean city Naqoura, some 4 kilometres (2.5 miles) north of the border, that killed and injured several Israeli soldiers.

The Israeli army confirmed clashes and casualties in the western sector of Lebanon, but did not say whether it or Hezbollah had suffered the losses.

It also did not give the location of the fighting.

Clashes to the east, at Bint Jbail, resulted in casualties, the Israeli army said, but gave no additional details.
