An investigation is underway into the cause of yesterday's bush fires in Sydney's western suburbs and Blue Mountains.
A bushfire emergency was declared in a number of areas across NSW, these included Marsden Park, the Hawkesbury, Londonderry and Winmalee.

Back burning operations continued past sunset in Londonderry as an uncontrolled fire travelled to the east.

Strong winds, 30 degree temperatures and dry bushland were the key ingredients that fuelled the uncontrolled fires during the day.

All emergency warnings have since been downgraded and most local roads have been re-opened. Up to date information of road closures may be found at www.livetraffic.com

A home in Marsden Park has been destroyed during the bush fire. Other structures as well as cars and a caravan were also destroyed.

It's estimated around 800 fire fighters were tasked to battle the bush fires. Seven were treated for smoke inhalation and two with minor burns.

The Rural fire service has regularly updated advice for residents in bush fire prone areas. Important and up to date information may be found at www.rfs.nsw.gov.au

Any witnesses to suspicious activity surrounding the bushfires should be reported crime stoppers on 1-800-333-000
