Richard Sennett: And what about people?

Richard Sennett is one of the greatest intellectual minds of our time. At the heart of his thinking is the human being and the effect that capitalism, today's working world, and increasing urbanization have on us. Yves Bossart met the world-renowned sociologist in Berlin.

Sennett wanted to be a musician, but a botched operation on his left hand put paid to his ambition. Today, Richard Sennett is one of the most influential minds in the world. In his best-selling book The Corrosion of Character, the sociologist who lives in London and New York, shows the impact that precarious working conditions have on people’s character. In his books The Craftsman and Together he questions what “good work” is and how we can improve social cohesion. And his current book Building and Dwelling: Ethics for the City examines what cities need to look like in order to achieve social integration and make a “good life” possible. Yves Bossart speaks with the 75-year-old master thinker about his eventful life and the main tenets of his works.
