Brenda Roberts as Salome in the Richard Strauss (1864-1949) opera "Salome" (1905). Recorded live in Ghent, Belgium and given to me by the Opera House.
Part VI, "Dance of the Seven Veils". I believed that Salome did not have a "dance" ready for Herodes but that the dance was an improvisation. It was my goal to portray, as Salome, her life - born as if out of a cocoon, seeing the world, childlike, exploring, seeing John the Baptist, hearing his voice, falling in love with him, being rejected and cursed by him, finding no way to escape her life, deciding to take revenge and leaving the world - both physically and mentally.
