Buff-necked ibises hunt by using their long, curved bills to probe into soft soil and mud for prey. Buff-neck ibises are carnivores that eat a wide range of insects, small invertebrates, and vertebrates. This ibis walks openly in dry fields, airfields, and look for burned areas. Buff-neck ibises are both visual and tactile feeders, foraging by lowering their bills into the water or mud to feel for prey, or by swinging the bill side to side through water. On land, in the soft soil, the ibis will press its long, curved bill into the earth in hopes of hunt a worm, salamander or insect.
