Genus Aix: Mandarin Duck and Wood Duck

Описание к видео Genus Aix: Mandarin Duck and Wood Duck

Another Silly Video by Susan Kirby. Filming the Feathers. Genus Aix: Woody and Mandy at the Pond. For those, like me, who just can't get enough of the Mandarin duck and Woody the Woody Duck in Central Park. There are only two ducks in Genus Aix: the Mandarin Duck (Aix galericulata) and the Wood Duck (Aix sponsa). Mandarin ducks are native to East Asia, and wood ducks are native to the Western Hemipshere. On November 14 and 16, 2018, a Mandarin duck and four wood ducks were hanging out at the Pond in Central Park. Woody Wood Duck, Prince of the Pond, is a permanent resident. Mandy Mandarin Duck is a visitor, presumably an escaped or released pet duck. Mandy is not the first Mandarin duck in Central Park (the Central Park Zoo has been known to have Mandarin residents), but he is the first to interact with Woody. That's what this video is all about.
