Country style steak bites (beef tips) and gravy is something I grew up eating, and I love this dish! It tastes so good, you'd never guess this food was ever freeze dried or sat on my pantry shelf. This recipe is not complicated. There are very few ingredients. But it's full of flavor and I would definitely be proud to serve this to company.
This recipe makes 2 servings. In this video, I include the mashed potatoes in the top of the jar, but you can leave those out entirely. If so, you could just use a pint sized jar instead. Or you could double this recipe and make enough for 4 servings.
Our freeze dried ingredients are top notch and second to none. The quality, the flavor, the texture, the shelf-life -- all of it is exceptional. So if you're looking to fortify your long term storage, this food will not disappoint. If you're wanting to add some convenience to your life and eliminate food waste by using this food for every day cooking, again, this food is the perfect solution. With a 25 year shelf life unopened and a 1-year window to use it after opening, the chances are you will no longer be wasting your groceries. They say the most expensive food you buy is the food you throw away. How much food do you throw away from your refrigerator/pantry? I know I used to throw out probably 20% of what I bought at the grocery store. That's insane. Now that we cook with Thrive Life freeze dried food for every day meals, I have drastically reduced my food waste. That has helped us to save money on our groceries. It's very satisfying! No more last minute trips to the grocery store. No more using half a can of tomato paste and throwing out the moldy remains 4 weeks later. I now have the ability to use 1 Tablespoon of ingredients at a time without worrying about how to use up the rest of the can.
These ingredients are shelf-stable and don't even take up room in my fridge. I store some of them in a pantry, some in a storage closet, some under the bed, some at the top of a linen closet. And when I need them, I have them. Not to mention that with a 25-year shelf life, I paid way less for some of these things than they would cost today. That's what I call a hedge against inflation. Win win!!

Country-Style Steak Bites & Gravy w/ Mashed Potatoes
To a quart jar, add:
1 cup beef dices
1/4 cup onion slices
1/3 cup espagnole sauce
1 Tbsp garlic
1/2 tsp Chef's Choice all-purpose seasoning
Tap it down
Place a baggie in the top of the jar and add the mashed potato mixture:
1 c instant mashed potatoes
2 Tbsp butter powder
2 Tbsp instant milk
1 Tbsp sour cream powder
1 Tbsp heavy cream powder
1/2 tsp salt and pepper
Seal up the baggie then add an oxygen absorber to the jar and seal for storage
Makes 2 servings

To Prepare (you'll need 2 pots - 1 med skillet for the meat/gravy and 1 med pot for the potatoes)
In a medium skillet, add the steak bites mixture and add 2 cups water; stir well until all the sauce is incorporated into the water
Over medium heat, bring to a boil
Lower the heat; cover and simmer for 20 minutes or until steak bites are tender and gravy has the right consistency.
Add more water if necessary
Heat an additional 5 mins with the lid off if you like a glossier, thicker gravy
At the very end of the cooking time, in the other pot, bring 1 1/2 cups water to a simmer. Add the mashed potato mix. Turn off heat. Stir until well incorporated. You may add additional water or milk to thin it out.
Serve immediately with steak bites and gravy.
Enjoy!
