Meet the CEO and Co-Founder of LSVT Global Inc. Cynthia Fox, SLP, CCC, Ph.D. Dr. Cynthia Fox explained today the meaning of LSVT which stands for Lee Silverman Voice Treatment. Dr. Lorraine Ramig met Mrs. Lee Silverman, who is a Parkinson's Disease patient. Meeting her and Lee Silverman's family inspired Dr.Ramig to developed an evidenced-based speech treatment protocol that will help Parkinson's disease patient improved their speech.
Dr. Cynthia Fox helped expand the use of LSVT LOUD beyond people with Parkinson’s disease to other conditions, such as multiple sclerosis and stroke, and pioneered the application to pediatric populations including children with cerebral palsy and Down syndrome. She also had the privilege of working closely on the development of LSVT BIG, a physical and occupational therapy program that stemmed from the LSVT LOUD speech treatment. Today, LSVT LOUD® is the only speech treatment for Parkinson’s disease that is supported by over 30 years of research with funding from the National Institutes of Health, including three randomized controlled trials (RCT), LSVT BIG is supported by two RCTs and multiple case series, single-subject, small group designs, and retrospective charts reviews that have documented improvements in a range of measures including gait speed, balance, and activities of daily living. The mission of LSVT Global is to translate this extensive research into real-world clinical practice.
