Описание к видео Sens. debate border security, criminal justice

(27 Nov 2018) U.S. Senators on Capitol Hill are debating their end of the year priorities.
Some top agenda items include focusing on a final push to increase funding for President Donald Trump's border security plans and whether to to hold a vote on a rewrite of the nation's criminal justice sentencing laws.
Vice President Mike Pence and President Donald Trump's son-in-law, Jared Kushner, visited Capitol Hill Tuesday as lawmakers from both parties push Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell to hold a vote on a criminal justice bill. McConnell's reluctance to hold a floor vote has come as some members of his caucus have strongly objected to the bill.
Arkansas Sen. Tom Cotton has led that group, arguing that sentences for drug offenders shouldn't be given an earlier release in the middle of a national drug epidemic.
Meanwhile, House Republicans have already approved $5 billion for Trump's wall, but in the Senate, where Republicans need Democratic support to prevent a filibuster, a bipartisan bill allocates $1.6 billion. It's unclear how hard Republicans will be willing to fight for the wall, given that dozens of House GOP lawmakers are serving their final days in Congress after retiring or losing their re-election races
Yet South Carolina Republican Sen. Lindsey Graham said Trump does "expect to get $5 billion." He also defended U.S. agents at the southern border saying those who criticized the firing of tear gas into Mexico to disperse migrants who had breached the border should "go down there" and walk in the agents' "shoes for a minute."
