Welcome back! It's Drew here with yet another "Mobility Experience". Have you ever wondered how you could travel on a train with a mobility scooter? If you have a personal mobility device and you have a disability, you will be able to get your mobility scooter or power wheelchairs on public transit, free of charge. Being an avid ADA partner, we want to show you what it's like to ride on a train with a mobility scooter. Keep in mind that this is actually my first time taking a mobility scooter on a train, so you can get a real understanding of just how easy it is.

Join me as I take you through the whole process of boarding a train in the United States. I will start by unloading out scooter from the vehicle. We will then purchase our tickets, from a ADA friendly ticket booth. Once we have purchased our tickets, its time to look around, and find the handicap loading zone. This zone is going to be at the back or front of the train, depending on which direction you are going. You will be greeted by a train worker who will put down a folding ramp so you can board the train safely.

Once we have boarded the train from the station platform, it's time to find a designated spot. You will notice handicap stickers. If you see seats with handicap stickers, the seats can be removed, or folded so you can park you mobility scooter. It is important to not that taking a large mobility scooter on a train will be difficult. Will will need to park near the front door. If someone is already there, you may have to wait for the next train to meet your accommodations.

As we take our train ride just a couple of stops from Deerfield Beach Station to Cypress Creek Station in Fort Lauderdale, FL we enjoy the view of the Florida green landscape and beautiful weather.

Getting off the train was also really easy. The train attendant asked which stop I wanted to get off when I first boarded the train. He was already prepared to let me off once I reached my location. I really felt that the Florida Tri-Rail really did a great accommodating me with my mobility scooter. I was really impressed with the way I was treated. My only negative experience was when I tried to get something from the vending machine. They were out of service. I then decided to leave the train station to go grab some lunch.

I really hope you enjoyed taking this adventure with me. Remember being disabled does not have to keep you down. You can regain your independence alone or with a little help. We are here for you and your questions at any time. Thank you for watching!
