Next week on Baisakhi, it will be four decades since India launched ‘Operation Meghdoot’ to foil Pakistani designs and gain full control of the Siachen glacier. To date, it remains the Indian Army’s longest deployment, one that continues. A decade ago, a book titled ‘Beyond NJ 9842: The Siachen Saga’ was published. Set on the world’s highest battlefield (about 20,000 feet) where the inhospitable terrain and harsh weather are any soldier’s worst enemy, the book is a tribute to the indomitable human spirit against all odds. It’s a portrayal of valour and sacrifice through the eyes of Indian army personnel who have been there, done that. In this episode of ‘Simply Nitin’, StratNews Global Editor-in-Chief Nitin A.
