Bornholm is an eastern island of Denmark located in the Baltic Sea. It was bombed and occupied for 11 months by the Soviets, following the German occupation of Denmark. The People's Meeting (Folkemødet) is an annual four day meeting with debates in June on the island of Bornholm, where the people can meet their politicians face to face to further democratic dialogue. In 2014 the average number of visitors during the People's Meeting was 22.000.
