Alexandria: Egypt's Mediterranean Jewel E G

I begin my series of YouTube videos from Egypt in Alexandria, sprawled along the Mediterranean coast near the western edge of the Nile River Delta.

This iconic city of 5 million people is rich in history, culture and architecture and is filled with ancient ruins of the Greco-Roman era, as one might expect of a city founded in 331BC by Alexander the Great, after whom it is named.

Its fame as the one-time intellectual center of the world, with its great ancient library is mirrored in the splendid Library of Alexandria, among the world’s most renowned present-day libraries.

Besides being a beautiful city pressed against the sea, Alexandria is a bustling metropolis (although practically laid-back compared to Cairo) that’s an ideal way to ease into the Egyptian experience, especially for those visiting the country for the first time.
