Kim Stevenson, CIO, Intel sits down with Jeff Frick at Intel's Innovation Day

Kim Stevenson, chief information officer Intel Corporation explains how the company’s values lead to innovation and revenue generation as she sits down with Jeff Frick on theCUBE, SiliconANGLE’s media platform at Intel’s Innovation Day at the Robert N. Noyce Building at the Intel museum.

Rich in history
Founded in 1968 by Robert Noyce, Intel is well known for its production of semiconductors and a culture that embraces his quote, “Don’t’ be encumbered by history. Go off and do something wonderful.” Stevenson is part of that culture and she describes Intel as a company that still has “founder DNA” running through it.

Some of the corporate values important to Intel employees are results orientation, the discipline and the activity it takes to drive results and customer orientation, the invention of products that will make a difference to all people all over the world. According to Stevenson, “Intel has probably touched everyone on earth with their technology.”

Results driven
The CIO believes that rapid insight and feedback regarding consumer habits is changing every industry, and teams within Intel looks for opportunities that bring greater value to the company. The evidence of one team’s success became tangible through a project where the team took external data associated with the market sales of its products and used advanced analytic predictive modeling based on machine learning manage the sales channels route to market.

The results? According to Stevenson, “Through machine learning we were able to drive $351 million of revenue for Intel.”

The value of IT
Stevenson considers IT’s role to be helping the company operations run and creating business value through a deep understanding of the problems. “Ultimately through understanding, you are able to do what the business units inside the company think is impossible,” she explained.

Embracing diversity
Intel’s philosophy on diversity is that thought perspective leads to better outcomes. Stevenson embraces her role in the company’s diversity initiatives. She said, “I see no limitations for me and if I can get every diverse person in the world to say ‘I see no limitations for me’ then I think we will have accomplished our goal.”
