In a major push to curb vehicular pollution, the Centre has unveiled a three-pronged plan for Delhi-NCR. Nearly two lakh old trucks will be phased out and 20,000 diesel buses converted to CNG within five years. The move, costing around ₹2,500 crore, aims to reduce emissions from heavy vehicles that account for almost 40% of NCR’s air pollution. Financial aid and subsidies may be offered to truck owners, while non-compliant vehicles could face entry penalties. The Commission for Air Quality Management has already banned non-BS-VI, non-CNG, and non-electric vehicles from entering Delhi. Watch!
