BMCC6K Full Frame Blackmagic Cinema Camera 6K VS Sony ZVE1 Mixed Lighting

Today my friends I am testing my Blackmagic Cinema Camera 6K full frame (honestly that name is killing me haha) in a mixed / studio lighting environment and comparing it to the Sony ZVE1 (same sensor and processing as Sony A7SIII, FX3 and FX6).

This kind of lighting / conditions are very tricky for cameras with poor colour depth and dynamic range to handle but as you can see it is not really a problem for either.

In the past I found this setup can really mess with colours so I found it to be really good to test cameras to their limits.

I have shot BMCC6K in Q0 BRAW and ZVE1 in 10bit 4:2:2 all intra.

Same lens as all my tests are done with the Nikon 35mm 2.5E (I have three of them but try to use just one if I can when camera is in the same locked off position).

In terms of colour grading I only have done the appropriate CST conversion for both and then graded / pushed Blackmagic Cinema Camera 6K on a separate node and just copied that node over to the empty one in Sony's tree.

Then later I "matched" the Sony ZVE1 by only dialling green shift to -7.

I normally don't explain these things in so much detail as it is so trivial to me but I have received a number of comments that made me think people don't really know how to technically colour correct or are not aware of the official workflows that are widely adopted in the industry. So if you haven't read this and posting some rubbish I will call you for what you are - a little toll :)

So far I am really enjoying both cameras and since they are so closely priced it's a major headache of mine to decide which one I will keep as I only keep two at the time and the Panasonic S5IIX may or may not be on its way...
