I farmed BIS Mage Tower Gear but was it worth it?

The Shadowlands relaunch of the Legion Mage Tower features a unique Timewalking scaling element that in the past was famous for allowing certain gear to break the boundaries of the hard line drawn by Blizzard.
This coupled with how potentially difficult the Mage Tower can be, this makes one wonder how much time should be spent outside the challenge vs how much should be spent practicing.
I give my opinions on that distinction.
