Are you unintentionally participating in- or are a victim of cancel culture? Today I want to discuss the dangers of cancel culture on people’s careers, and how we can minimize the negative effects of cancel culture in society.

Cancel culture, a recent phenomenon, is a form of exclusion of people where they are “canceled” and therefore, isolated from social and professional circles.

Recently, Chris Harrison, the long-standing host of The Bachelor and Bachelorette TV Series, has had to resign from the show following a racial controversy in which he was seen defending a contestant on The Bachelorette.

The effects of cancel culture are that the livelihoods and careers, like that of Harrison's, are entirely destroyed due to disagreements or differences in views.

Now, you know how it’s possible for things that are said to be taken totally out of context. And it's really worrying that they can get blown up into a very huge issue - even when the person in question actually had very different intentions in mind.

Nobody is perfect and we all are human. When someone says something we don’t like, we should ask what they meant before taking offense. It’s also a good practice to try and correct the person, then explain why their statements offend you. This would be a better approach than choosing to destroy their reputation and automatically "canceling" them.

The dangers of cancel culture are far-reaching and it's important that we avoid participating in it before another person becomes a victim of cancel culture.
