Atal Tunnel, Manali | World Book of Records | World's Longest Tunnel above 3000mtrs

A proud moment for every Himachali and all Indians, Atal Tunnel has officially been certified as the "World's longest highway tunnel above 10,000 feet'!!

The new Atal Tunnel or Atal Rohtang Tunnel connecting Manali to Lahaul was inaugurated on 3rd October 2020 after 10 long years of construction. Today we are super excited to be among the first ones to drive through this world class, state-of-art Atal tunnel and direcly exit into the stunning Lahaul valley in just 20 minutes!

Winter is right around the corner and for the first time, Lahaul, one of Himachal’s remotest inhabitations, is not going to be cut off from the rest of the world through the long frozen winter months. The new 9.2 Km long Atal Rohtang Tunnel between Manali and Keylong, drilled right through the Pir Panjal range is changing lives of thousands in Lahaul-Spiti. AtalTunnel has reduced the drive between Manali and Keylong by 46 kilometers and more than 3 hours. Earlier, Manali to Keylong via Rohtang Pass (127 Km) took 5-6 hours or more.

This is one of the most challenging projects executed by the BRO (Border Road Organization) and has set a new record as the world’s longest highway tunnel above the altitude of 10,000 feet (3,000m). Tourism in Lahaul valley is also set for a huge spurt with the opening of this magnificent Atal Rohtang Tunnel. So all travelers planning a trip to Manali or Lahaul in Himachal Pradesh, should watch this video right till the end.
