How Often Should I Water My Soil Blocks?

Watering frequency for soil blocks depends on several factors, such as the size of the block, the type of plant you're growing, and the environment (temperature, humidity, etc.), but here are some general guidelines:

Starting Out: When making your soil blocks and planting your seeds, water them thoroughly until you see water coming out of the bottom. This ensures that the entire block is saturated.

Daily Check: Check your soil blocks daily. The top of the block will dry out first but don't water just because the top layer looks dry. Instead, feel the weight of the block. If it's light, it needs water. If it still feels heavy, there's enough moisture inside.

Watering Method: When watering, avoid pouring water directly onto the block as it can cause erosion. Instead, water from the bottom by filling the tray, holding your blocks with water, and letting them soak it up.

Avoid Overwatering: Overwatering can lead to problems like damping off (a fungal disease that can kill seedlings). The blocks should be kept moist but not soggy. If the blocks are constantly waterlogged, the seedlings may not get the oxygen they need to grow.

Remember, these are general guidelines. Some plants may prefer drier conditions, while others may need more moisture. Always research the specific watering needs of the plants you're growing.
