The Korean Institute of Criminology and Justice International Forum (KICJIF) is an annual venue for experts in crime and criminal justice from home and abroad to share best practices and develop practical and efficacious crime prevention measures.

This year, the forum aims to explore legal and policy issues surrounding the human rights-based ethical regulations of new and emerging technologies. Session II examines legal and ethical issues of human rights protection regarding the development and utilization of automated decision-making systems. Specifically, it discusses the following: impact assessment and regulatory challenges of AI algorithm used by the Canadian government, following the Directive on Automated Decision-Making adopted in 2019; legal and ethical issues regarding indeterminacy in algorithms and possible legislative responses; and legal and ethical implications of a Korean case study on AI-based crime predictions of offenders under electronic monitoring.
