John and Paddy Foster are excited about their suite purchase at The Davies, Brandy Lane Homes’ new luxury boutique condominium on Avenue Road at Cottingham Street, south of Forest Hill and the esteemed De La Salle College. The Fosters live in a low-rise home just to the east in Rosedale, and nearly a year ago, Paddy noticed the sign for The Davies while walking around the area. “I saw that it was going to be on Avenue Road, googled it, and realized it would be ideal for us,” Paddy says. “The saying ‘location, location, location’ is true.”

Within a five-minute walk, residents can be at the well-loved shops of Summerhill and Yonge, often referred to as the “Five Thieves.” The Davies overlooks scenic Robertson Davies Park, yet another charming aspect of the lifestyle it offers. “Paddy and I are retired, and we want the convenience of condominium living at this stage in our lives. They also appreciate the care that has gone into The Davies’ design. Award-winning SMV Architects has incorporated limestone cladding at street level, face rock and smooth elements along the wraparound terraces, as well as wood and stone hues to coexist harmoniously with the stately brick and stone homes in this well-established neighbourhood. Preeminent landscape design firm Nak Design Group and Brandy Lane Homes will make enhancements to the adjacent Robertson Davies Park.

“The exterior is very attractive, and different from most others we have seen,” John says. “At nine storeys, it’s an intimate building, which is what we wanted. We’re not interested in walking down long corridors dragging luggage and groceries. The elevator will open up into our suite, and there is a service elevator for staff and deliveries, providing a welcome level of privacy.”

The couple is also delighted with the amenities that will be included in The Davies, such as the rooftop terrace with its three distinct areas: private open-air reading rooms facing east; chaise lounges facing west; and an entertaining area with a wet bar facing south, overlooking Toronto’s skyline. “We love the idea of going up to the roof to relax,” Paddy says. “I know we will enjoy all three spaces.” Amenities extend to a fully equipped fitness room, The Avenue Room with an adjacent catering kitchen for entertaining, a formal conference room/dining room, a designer-decorated guest suite with a kitchenette, a dog-wash station, and attentive 24/7 concierge service.

The Fosters selected the 1,839 square-foot, two-bedroom penthouse for a number of reasons. According to Paddy, “We wanted a large residence with a gas fireplace, a barbecue hook-up on the wraparound terrace, and direct elevator access for single-level living with no stairs. In addition, the suite’s southwest exposure has us looking down Avenue Road at the park, which will be beautiful.”

They were also impressed with the features and finishes Brandy Lane Homes offers. For example, each residence comes with a Bosch appliance package and custom Cameo kitchens. Customer service has been tremendously important to them as well. “Brandy Lane has bent over backwards to accommodate changes so we could customize our home,” Paddy says. “This has been a very pleasant buying experience.”
