Transient Lunar Phenomena (TLPs) are mysterious, short-lived changes in the Moon's appearance that have puzzled astronomers for centuries. These include temporary colorations, unusual brightenings, haziness, and geometric shapes that appear and disappear within minutes or hours. Since the first recorded TLP in 1178, over 2,600 events have been documented, with the Aristarchus crater accounting for about one-third of all reports. Despite the Moon's supposedly "dead" geological status, these phenomena suggest ongoing activity. Leading theories include gas escaping from the lunar interior, electrostatic dust levitation, meteorite impacts, solar wind interactions, and piezoelectric effects. The transient nature of these events makes them difficult to study, but modern technology and coordinated observation networks are improving documentation capabilities. NASA's Artemis program and future lunar bases may finally provide opportunities to investigate these phenomena directly, potentially solving a centuries-old astronomical mystery and deepening our understanding of lunar geology.
