Описание к видео Samsung Series 9: Sleep/Hibernate - speed test

This is a Samsung Series 9 NP900X3B with a samsung PM830 mSATA SSD.

To reiterate the video: a music clip was played in the background, and the notebook was put into either sleep or hibernate while the clip is playing. When the music is off, then the notebook is in a sleep or hibernate mode, and when the music is back on again, then the computer has resumed to the fully functional state again.

Sleep takes roughly 1-2 seconds, and hibernate takes roughly 4-5 seconds.

Differences between Sleep vs Hibernate: Sleep is when all the information currently on your computer is suspended in the memory (RAM), while everything else like the processor, monitor, hard drive (or SSD), etc, gets shut off to save power. However, the computer still must draw power from the wall or battery to keep memory running, and this is why there is still a very slow battery drain. Because all the information is already in the memory, it only takes a second or two to resume the computer again.

Hibernate is different in that when putting the computer in this state, all the information currently in the memory must first be written to the hard drive (or SSD) first before everything gets powered down. This additional step is why it takes longer for the computer to enter a hibernate state compared to a sleeping state. However, the upside to this is that it does not leech power from the battery, so your battery won't slowly drain.

Typically, it takes much longer to enter into hibernate. The purpose of this video shows that a very fast solid state disk (SSD) paired with drivers from Intel "Rapid Start Technology" enables the computer to hibernate/resume in a matter of seconds, almost the same speed as a sleep state.
