How to Use Contrapposto in Figure Drawing

Patrick Jones suggests loosening up stiff photos by using contrapposto, which focuses on counterbalance. He recommends tilting the hips and shifting the weight-bearing leg to get a more dynamic pose. Paying attention to anatomical landmarks like the iliac crest, sartorius muscle, and adductors will help strengthen the pose. Jones also stresses using a mix of curves and straight lines to add style to the drawing. The key is balancing structure with gestural flow. He suggests using charcoal to refine and adjust as you go, pushing and pulling shapes to develop your own style.
