We just ran the water line to the new house we’re building.
I started by digging a ditch from the well to the corner of the house.
The water line needs to be at least 30 inches deep in our area, so it won’t freeze.
We had sleeved the foundation for the water line, but it was covered up by waterproofing; so, I tapped a piece of rebar from the basement side through to find the sleeve.
Next my plumber drilled a hole through the well casing at the bottom of the ditch.
Then he installed a pitless adapter in the hole.
The adapter holds the pump, and this is where the water line comes out of the well.
Next, he installed the male insert barb adapter.
Heating the end of the water line helps it to slide over the adapter; then the water line is fastened in place with two hose clamps.
He also installed a torque arrester above the pump. This keeps the pump from torquing and striking the casing when it turns on and off.
Our well is 200 feet deep, and we set the pump was set at 140 feet.
I also had our plumber install an outdoor hydrant next to the well.
Once everything was installed, I covered it all back up.
