The habit of urinating while standing in men, also known as "standing urination," has developed in the majority of countries around the world. However, this method is not scientifically accurate.

On May 16th, the data analytics company YouGov released the results of an interesting survey, analyzing the rates of standing and sitting urination among men by country.

According to the survey, in Germany, as many as 62% of men urinate while sitting down. In contrast, in some other countries like the United States and the United Kingdom, only a mere 23-24% of men surveyed reported doing so.

Additionally, younger men seem to have a tendency to urinate while sitting more than older men.

So, what is the scientifically correct way to urinate?

According to Gerald Collins, a urological surgeon at Alexandra Hospital in the UK, sitting to urinate is better for men. Simply put, this position helps to effectively empty the bladder.

Furthermore, when we stand, the muscles in the pelvic area become tense and do not provide comfort. Sitting down allows the muscles to relax, making urination faster and more convenient.

This approach brings many health benefits, such as avoiding the risk of urinary tract infections or bladder stones caused by residual urine during urination.

Previously, a study was conducted on men with enlarged prostates. The results of the study confirmed that patients with lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS) may find it easier to urinate when they try sitting down.

"Sitting position is the best position for men with urinary problems. This is clinically significant because residual urine can lead to complications such as bladder inflammation and bladder stones," the study stated.
