George Leonard's principles as described in his book, Five Keys to Mastery, are simple to follow but hard to master. Among many other things, I've become a master of the art of the video game, along with the strategic and tactical decisions making skills required to be a video game ace. Instruction, or getting a guide, is fairly simple, but my mastery has come with realizing that without the instruction there isn't true success. The principles of Practice and Surrender go hand in hand. I have found that without Practice, you can't really surrender to your passion, and without surrender, you won't be determined to practice enough. Clearly seeing the victory, every time, is how I've personally focused and developed the Intentionality key. The Edge can be dangerous ground to tread, but I find that with each step I take along the line, I advance further as a person and in my mastery of the gaming environment.
Many hours of hard practice occurred before I became aware of the habits I developed that showed a deeper level of mastery. Hopefully, you'll notice the intensity and focus, as well as, the posture I display during my gaming. That is the secret to mastering video games and life in general, intensely focused attention and dedicated practice.
