This lecture covers the issue of the geographical origins of the Kassite people whose dynasty ruled Babylonia between ca. 1450 and 1154 B.C.E. In doing so Dr Clayden reviews the written and archaeological evidence for the origin of the Kassites being east of the Tigris region. He also presents material from two recent Iraqi excavations – one very recently published, and one in preparation for publication – providing further evidence of Kassite occupation in the region.

Dr Tim Clayden has been conducting research on the Kassite Period since the mid-1980s, and has published numerous papers on the subject (available on Academia). He is also BISI’s Honorary Treasurer. He is currently working as the Bursar of Green Templeton College, University of Oxford.
