At the African Traditional Leaders Conference 2025 in Eswatini, Her Royal Highness Princess Kana Tumaini of Burundi delivered a heartfelt intervention that highlighted the enduring bond between Africa and its diaspora

Speaking from her personal experience of life in Switzerland and the stories of her family, she emphasized that Africans living abroad remain inseparably connected to their ancestral homeland. She likened the relationship to that of parents and children — “when Africa thrives, the diaspora stands tall; when Africa suffers, the diaspora too is weighed down.”
Princess Tumaini also addressed the stigma often faced by Africans in the diaspora, who are labeled as “immigrants” or “foreigners” despite their deep cultural and spiritual ties to Africa. She stressed that the diaspora carries both responsibility and opportunity: to contribute skills, resources, and advocacy, while also expecting Africa to be peaceful, prosperous, and strong.
Her remarks underscored the need for trust, collaboration, and unity between Africa and its diaspora, affirming that African unity is destiny. 🌍👑
