My friend Bob Turnberg had invited me to join him to operate a diesel locomotive in Ely, Nevada. I couldn't turn down the chance, and ended up getting to operate it for the entire time. It was a great experience and I had the chance to operate a 1,750 hp diesel locomotive from Ely to Lavon, Nevada. It was in an older ~1956 EMD SD-9 (built by General Motors). I learned a lot and had a lot of fun. I don't think I'll ever get this opportunity again, but with how many things that went wrong, I don't know that they would want me back!
