RAF Laarbruch PBF XV Pilots Breifing Facility

Описание к видео RAF Laarbruch PBF XV Pilots Breifing Facility

The XV Squadron PBF is currently being demolished. We filmed this Nuclear Grade Bunker in 2021. Exploring Dave was based at RAF Laarbruch during his time in the HM Forces. The company Rheinmetall AG who are to make F35 components for Boeing are clearing the PBF and other historic buildings to make way for the future. Here at ALW Research Team we document the past.

Transcript;

In today’s episode we are at the former Royal Air Force Laarbruch. This was a NATO air station in West Germany from 1945 until 30th October 1999.

The site is in a preserved state as it is now a civilian airport ‘Weeze’. Several areas within the high security boundary are used for firefighting and police training by the German authorities.

We have special permission to be here, and our site guide Sebastian has unlocked this pilots briefing facility for us.

This photograph shows the Pilots Briefing Facility in around 1989, shortly after construction was completed.

Each aircraft squadron based here had its own pilots briefing facility. This one was built for 15 squadron.

As the squadrons stood down and RAF Laarbruch closed, these substantial buildings were left behind and fell into disuse.

Further videos from our permission visit here at Royal Air Force Laarbruch are coming soon.

RAF Laarbruch located in Germany on the western edge near the Netherlands border, was home to various front-line squadrons from 1949 until 1999, including II (AC) Squadron flying F-4 Phantom II; and 15 and 16 Squadrons flying BAe Buccaneers and 25 Squadron 'C' Flight with Bloodhound surface to air missiles in the 1970s, followed by Jaguars in the 1980s. These were replaced by Tornados with four squadrons (2, 15, 16,and 20) being based here at Laarbruch. Canberras and Hunters also served here at Laarbruch supporting various roles.

After the first Gulf War, many of the squadrons were relocated, No. 2 Sqn going back to RAF Marham; and 15, 16, and 20 becoming reserve squadrons. When RAF Gütersloh closed, the Harriers of 3(F) and IV(AC) squadrons relocated to Laarbruch along with the Puma helicopters of 18(B) Squadron.

Laarbruch was also home to 1 and 26 Squadron RAF Regiment. 18 Squadron returned to RAF Odiham in 1997 with the remaining Harrier squadrons departing to RAF Cottesmore in 1999.

In 2003 Civilian airport operations began here, eventually being named Airport Weeze.
